We are proud to be the very first hostel to open in Portland, Maine! (Read all about it!)
We truly believe in affordable travel and LOVE the social environment that hostels create. It is not just where you travel to - but who you meet along the way and the experiences you have together. We strive to provide a comfortable and creative living space for all travelers, young and old in a unique, clean, and super fun environment.
Our goal at The Black Elephant is to create an open-minded and safe space with those who choose to explore the world around them and ultimately, to inspire a global sense of community.

Our Rooms
We offer a communal kitchen and funky lobby that are shared by all guests. The hostel sleeps just about 60 people, and is available for Hostel Takeovers. Our rooms are in the following configurations:
5 Dorms
One of which is Female Only and one of which is ADA compliant
A few Private Rooms
Two Triples with a Twin Over Full bunk
Three Doubles - two with Full Beds one with a Twin Bunk
Private with two bunks sleeping four guests
Private with two full sized bunk beds - ADA Compliant - sleeping up to eight guests
What we offer:

Enjoy excellent, locally-roasted coffee every morning. Yum!
Free Wifi
Enjoy strong wifi throughout the building because it's the 21st century.
